The New Forest Area Conservation Volunteers (NFACV) was set up in 1983 by local people from a wide range of backgrounds who wanted to do something positive to help conserve their surrounding countryside and its wildlife.

The main aim of the group is to enhance the natural environment in and around the New Forest by means of practical conservation work. This is done through a varied programme of 'tasks' which are undertaken by members who provide the voluntary workforce.

The NFACV is run by members on a voluntary basis. There is no subscription. Funds are derived from nominal charges made for completed tasks from the User Body. This money goes exclusively towards the running of the group, its tools and their maintenance.

The group is associated with the BTCV (British Trust for Conservation Volunteers) a national registered charity. The BTCV offers help to local conservation groups, undertakes practical conservation work and runs training courses which are available to NFACV members.

Group members have insurance cover under BCTV.
